Reasons/Excuses - And The Difference Is....?

I do have reasons why I haven't posted my blanket yet.  Or maybe it's excuses.  Hmmmm....

#1:  It's not finished yet.
I know!  Ridiculous, right?  Two rows stand between me and a HUGE finished colorful piece of happylove.  And I keep putting it off.  I'm not even going to say "this week for sure" or even a "maybe I'll finish it tonight".  Because as you can read, I say these things, and many times don't back them up.  I'm starting to wonder if I've got adult ADD or ADHD or whatever it is that doesn't allow for people to finish what they start.  Yep.  Anyway, it's not done yet.  It will be.  Eventually.

#2:  I've been making other things!
See?  That's a pretty good reason/excuse, right?  I've been a-hookin' away.  With Mother's Day rapidly approaching, I found myself freaking out, thinking about what I could create for my mom that would be something spring-y, colorful (she loves bright, cheery colors), and unique.  I settled on this little ditty:

Fun, bright, and happy - no?  I just love this little thing.  It was an experience to make it, simply because it was the first time for me to try out this pattern from the lovely Lucy at Attic 24.  Her tutorials are so thorough and include many, many pictures, two things that I must absolutely have!  Because of her blog and sunny attitude, I've been more than happy to try new patterns I encounter.  Thanks for giving me the courage to create, Lucy!
I did use a larger heart pattern that I found.  I think next time I'll try the original one found with Lucy's tutorial.  Hearts are dear, but I think it ended up a little too big for my liking.  However, my sweet momma loved it.  She plans to hang it up in her kindergarten classroom.  I hope my mom knows how much she inspires others to learn and grow.... kind of like a flower (see what I did there??!)

I also learned about this little beauty, too.  And I couldn't resist:

OH MY WORD.  This is probably the cutest thing I've hooked thus far.  I love this little granny owl.  I stumbled upon Jacquie's blog (via Attic24, I must admit!) and as soon as I saw this I knew I'd have to go for it!  I love how whimsical and just plain fun they are.  Look at those adorable little ear tufts!  Ahh!

I attempted some owl friends in the past.  They were rudimentary at best:

I made these in March 2012 and gave them to my Nana for her birthday.  Now I look at them and cringe a bit.  Naturally, I hooked up a little granny owl to gift her for mother's day.  I heard she thought they were a hoot (Oh my!  Puns all over the place today!).

Last but not least, I worked on a bit of a project for two wonderful students:

I had the honor of meeting two wonderful students who are a part of my husband's high school computer classes.  Their unique souls and zest for fun and learning really made an impression on me.  They were recently accepted into some really cool programs for high school upperclassmen, and I wanted to do something a little different to say "congrats"!  I made them each an owl (wise old owl, maybe it kind of means 'congrats on getting wiser and furthering your education!) and a couple of hats/beanies.  The hat designs come from Liz's fantastic creative mind.  My husband delivered these gifts to the students on Monday.  Though I will probably never know, I certainly hope they like them, I hope these students know how gifted they really are in their abilities.  Most of all, I wish them great success in their new educational endeavors!

So, see?  I've been busy crocheting, just not on that crazy blanket project of mine.  Speaking of crazy blanket project, I do have another blanket project coming up.  The pattern was found by a graphic designer type (aka: my husband), and I'm hoping that I can pull off the right color scheme and make it work.  So far so good.  I'll post picture on the progress of that, too.... eventually.  Hopefully another excuse doesn't crop up...

Ugh.

It's funny how just a couple of little things that occur can really change my attitude. I start out trying to be really positive and end up working myself up to lofty unrealistic expectations, then turn to negative, destructive behavior when said things *magically* don't live up to those impossible ideas. What a surprise. So what do you do, then? What do you do when things, little things at that, have such power to sour a mood? When that mood changes what you're doing or were going to do? Why do I give such little things such power? When will I stop and decide to take care of me? I go from wanting to completely isolate myself from everyone and everything, to desperately wanting company and to occupy time with conversations that lead to learning about others. I find isolation comforting and terrifying at the same time. The same goes with being around others. I used to not be like this. Ever since I recently made the decision that I was going to actually process  someth...

Life takes precedence.

I wanted to write a lovely post this week about the blanket I've almost finished, the blanket I'm working on, and the color themed owls that will soon be given away.  But I honestly don't feel that I can do that.  Too much has taken place, and it weighs on me.  While this is a crafty blog, sometimes life events take over.  I feel the need to post about this particular incident that happened less than 48 hours ago. I write this post with a very, very heavy heart.  Yet a thankful one.  Two days ago, a horrific tornado tore through the community just south of where my family's house is, taking lives and causing catastrophic destruction.  I spent the afternoon of May 20, 2013 glued to the computer in my office, watching in horror as this monster destroyed everything in its path.  Though I now live much further North and East (I moved 4 weeks ago) , my husband, parents, family, and friends are all in this area.  I felt so helpless watching this ...

Blanket at last! (sort of....)

So, since I finished that blanket, I've been dying to post pictures.  I worked on that thing off and on for a year.  Thanks to Lucy's awesome tutorials, I was able to figure out how to make some ripple-y goodness, and from there it just took off.  Now, I don't have the mad color matching skills that she does (or that most humans probably do).  I tend to just fluuuuuergh my colors everywhere, randomly.  I knew this blanket was going to be for me (and maybe my husband, if I decide to be nice and share.... :), and I never can decide on what colors I want to use.  Funny how that works - I can picture in my mind the perfect colors for a friend or family member, or a new design that I want to try and create.  But when it comes to me - well, I just love everything.  I want to use everything.  That's exactly what I did with this blanket.  And I've got to tell you - I LOVE the results.  I don't have any good pictures to post.  Unfort...
